This picture taken just outside of Altoona, Pennsylvania of The Horseshoe Curve. The Curve was built in 1854 for the use as an alternative means to traverse the Allegheny Mountain. It was originally a four track Railway operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad. It has since become a three track Railway operated by the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The fourth track was removed in 1981 as a result of reduced traffic. I really think the Railroads should make more of a comeback in this country.
Nice to see this landmark after watching the Aerial America series which highlighted this landmark.....like it!
