Tioga/Hammond Dam Complex

This picture shows the 1978 constructed Tioga/Hammond Dam Complex located in Tioga, Pa. The principle purpose for the construction (1978) was flood control. It is also being used to control the acidity levels of the Tioga River that flows up North where it marries with the Cohocton River to form the Chemung River. A recent study completed in 2003 identified that the Tioga Water Shed from Blossburg to Upper Creek is being impacted by the Abandoned Mines (Coal) Drainage acidity. And this is your History lesson for the day/week.
