This picture taken of the Ubehebe Crater located five miles from Grapevine, California in Death Valley National Park. The Crater was created when rising magma turned groundwater into steam causing intense pressure until the superheated combination of steam and rock exploded. Ubehebe Crater is about a half-mile across and 500 feet deep. One notices that a lake did not develop, this is a result of the very little water and intense heat in the area.
